What a month it has been! Since August 15th, when President Lee Jae-Myung renewed his call for peace talks with the DPRK and August 16th, when President Trump “punished” South Korea for not joining his war of aggression in Iran by reducing Ulchi Freedom Shield war games, there’s been a lot happening publicly, behind the scenes, and in the Korea peace space.

Some of our members were here in Korea at that time, calling loudly for Korean sovereignty and a withdrawal of all US military assets. Other members were elevating calls for peace talks to their US Members of Congress and local communities in the USA.

Here are some op-eds folks have written:
Christine Ahn in Truthouth
Cathi Choi and Austin Headrick in Common Dreams
Christine Ahn, Youngmi Cho, and Thania Paffenholz in Foreign Policy

And, Simone Chun’s regular synthesis & commentary on Korean news is another great resource.

In our study session next Friday, will focus on these developments. For pre-study, please read the opeds and familiarize yourself with what’s been going on. If you’ve been following developments closely, please come prepared to share what you know and your sources. We’ll discuss together and talk about actions we can all take to magnify this small window of opportunity for peace talks.
