June 5-7: 11 mi / 17.7 km
June Total: 23.4 mi / 37.7 km
I did most of my weekend walking with friends, and I noticed something. Walking with others, it didn’t seem like I was walking as far as it did when I was walking alone. This reminds me of a proverb I’ve heard for years:
“If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.”
– African Proverb
Since hearing the news about a friend of ours who was abducted by an armed group last week, I’ve been thinking and praying for him and his family as I walk. He’s being held along with one of his coworkers. They were just on their way to work when their worlds were interrupted.
People seek refugee in other countries because their worlds have been capriciously and unfairly-often violently-interrupted. How far they’ll be able to go in building new lives after tragedy will largely depend on who is willing to go together with them.

Each day in June, I’m walking in solidarity with Sudanese refugees. My goal is to walk 3.1 mi / 5 km per day to raise $4,000 USD.
All donations will go to Trauma Rescue Aid’s food distribution program for the more than 700 Sudanese refugee families they serve. Let me know your pledge in the comments below or make your donation today at gofundme.com/traid2024
If you cannot give, could you walk to help us raise awareness? Thank you for your solidarity!
