This is an open-letter sent to my Congressional representatives, requesting their support for bills that would prohibit U.S. arms sales to the United Arab Emirates, the nation arming the RSF in its genocidal violence in Sudan. Send your own letter HERE.
I am writing to urge you to support and co-sponsor H.R.2059 or S.935, companion bills that would prohibit U.S. arms sales to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) until the UAE ends its material support for Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The RSF is responsible for horrific atrocities in Sudan, including ethnic cleansing, mass killings, and the displacement of millions – including in my husband’s home region of Sudan. According to numerous reports, the UAE has supplied the RSF with weapons, ammunition, and funding, enabling its campaign of terror against civilians in Darfur and across the country. We receive terrible videos of the violence being committed – and it is often targeted racially against Black African Sudanese civilians.
By restricting U.S. arms transfers to the UAE until it stops aiding the RSF, Congress can send a powerful message: the United States will not arm or enable those complicit in war crimes. These bills provide a targeted, effective way to cut off a key source of the RSF’s military support and push all parties toward a peaceful resolution.
You would also be sending a powerful message to me and families like mine, who suffer from moral injury knowing we pay taxes and contribute to a government that continues selling weapons to the nations backing genocide of our family in Sudan.
I urge you to cosponsor and publicly support H.R.2059 or S.935 and to press for their inclusion in the next National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) or other relevant legislation.
Thank you for standing with the Sudanese people in their fight for peace, justice, and accountability.
