Dear friends in the USA,
The US Congress is going to close shop on December 19th. That means, we have a short time to communicate with our representatives before they head home for the holidays.
Time is a funny thing. It can pass so slowly, and then you suddenly cannot believe how fast it flew.
The Korean War has been ongoing for 75 years.
Ask a Korean War veteran how that time passed for them.
Ask the son or daughter of a prisoner of war.
Ask any divided family member, long grieving separation from their family.
Ask any South Korean doing their mandatory military service.
Ask any North Korean living in fear of the resumption of active fighting.
The Korean War should have ended in the 1950s, but it lingers on like a bad dream from which the Korean people cannot awake. The current armistice, which the US signed, leaves in place wartime rights to use force. The US must play a role in official negotiations to finally end this war. It’s past time.
Will you take one concrete action for Korean Peace this month?
Please email your representative in Congress to ask them to support the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act (H.R. 1841) for urgent diplomacy to END the Korean War. After 75 years, this is not too much to ask. This should be obvious.
If you’re not too busy wrapping presents, go the extra mile:
FIND YOUR REP’S PHONE NUMBER and make a phone call.
Recommended Call Script:
“Hello, my name is [your name], from [City, State, Zipcode].
I am calling today to ask the Representative to support peace on the Korean Peninsula by cosponsoring H.R. 1841. This bill calls for urgent diplomacy to end the Korean War. 75 years later, it’s time to end this war. Please ask your boss to cosponsor H.R. 1841.“
