📧 Dear Senator / Dear Representative đź“ž

I recently drafted the following letter to my Senators and Representative, using a template by FCNL. Please consider sending your own letter and raising your voice for Sudan (source):

I am writing with grave concern for the situation in El Fasher, a city in Northern Darfur, Sudan, and ask you to speak out against the ongoing genocide. The United States has a moral duty to protect civilians facing genocide and I ask you to urgently speak out against the violence.

I care about this because I am married to a Sudanese man. His brothers and sisters are living in a village under occupation by the UAE-backed militia (Rapid Support Forces, RSF), and his cousins are in the city of Dilling, currently in famine and also under siege by the RSF, as El Fasher was for so long. When I see the crimes committed against civilians in El Fasher, I fear for their safety.

After besieging the city for over 500 days, causing catastrophic famine among civilians, the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group, have taken El Fasher and begun mass killings of civilians.

Such moments call on the moral courage of our leaders; more can and must be done to end this senseless violence. I urge you to speak out against this genocide and use all available levers of power you have to bring an end to this violence, including by co-sponsoring S. 935 / H.R. 2059, which would halt US arms sales to the UAE until the UAE ends their materiel support for the RSF.

đź’¬ Here’s a suggested script for your two Senate calls:

“Hi, l’m [YOUR NAME], a constituent from [CITY]. I’m calling to ask [SENATOR NAME] to support S. 935 to stop defense exports to the UAE.

Why does this matter?

  • 250,000 Sudanese have been killed since April 2023
  • 25 million people need humanitarian aid
  • The UAE is supplying weapons to the RSF,
whose forces are committing genocide in Sudan

What S. 935 does:

  • Stops U.S. weapons licenses to UAE until they stop arming the RSF
  • Holds our allies accountable for fueling atrocities
  • Ensures U.S. defense technology doesn’t enable war crimes

OPTIONAL: This is personal to me because [YOUR REASON].

This bill has 5 co-sponsors. Will [SENATOR NAME] co-sponsor and support S. 935?

Thank you.”

Sudanese communities have been abandoned by the international community, and raising public pressure is one of the few tools we have to push governments and corporations to stop enabling violence.

Are Imperialist powers replicating the Congo model in Sudan?

As Donald Trump’s administration brokers what it calls a “peace roadmap” in Sudan, a familiar pattern is emerging: like in the Democratic Republic of Congo before it, imperialism’s seemingly-contradictory manoeuvres around war and peace serve only to destabilize Sudan, facilitating the extraction of its wealth.
