Testimonial from Nawal

Trauma Rescue Aid (TRAID) is a refugee-led, grassroots nonprofit organization supporting survivors, victims, and forced displaced communities in Sudan. We provide transformative psychosocial support, medical referrals, human rights advocacy, and peacebuilding and reconciliation programs. We empower refugee women and girls to heal, reclaim their voices, pursue justice, and rebuild their lives.

Through grassroots, culturally rooted approaches, we provide trauma-informed support to Sudanese refugees through home-based and center-based counseling, legal and medical referrals, and awareness campaigns. We empower survivors of war and sexual violence, especially women and girls, with emotional healing, rights education, and access to justice.

“When we arrived in Uganda, my family and I decided to bury our pain deep inside. We hid our feelings and avoided talking about the painful experiences we endured during the war in Sudan. But everything changed when we took part in the counseling sessions with Dr. Yosra. Through her compassionate guidance, we learned how to communicate openly and begin healing the wounds of our past. Today, we are not only closer as a family, but we are also stronger in our ability to support and care for one another. We no longer shy away from our pain or let the stigma hold us back.”

-Nawal, a participant in TRAID‘s programming

#WalkinSolidarity2026, June 29-30

Though I surpassed my goal of walking 5 kilometers per day in June, the 162 kilometers I walked was only 8% of the journey from Nyala, Sudan to Mukono, Uganda that 13 year old Khamis* and his family took to survive.

We did not reach the goal of raising $4,000 USD for July food distribution…
