Stop The Bombs: Open Letter to my Representative, Sam Graves

“My friend in Gaza lost a young neighbor girl and her entire family yesterday in Gaza. He lost his cousin and aunt last week due to Israeli bombing. This is all in addition to the 11 family members he lost earlier this year in another Israeli bombing. I shouldn’t use the word ‘lose’ – as if he had done something wrong to misplace them. Israel stole them from him. Israel cruelly ended the lives of these civilians. I am reaching out as a constituent to urge you to co-sponsor the Block the Bombs Act.

This bill was introduced by Representatives Delia Ramirez, Sara Jacobs, Pramila Jayapal, and Mark Pocan with 18 original co-sponsors. It is standalone legislation that proactively challenges U.S. complicity in atrocity crimes against Palestinians in Gaza by prohibiting the worst offender offensive weapons — including bombs, tank rounds, and artillery shells — that are U.S. supplied and have been involved in the mass killing of Palestinian civilians and grossest violations of international law in Gaza.

The Block the Bombs Act represents what the majority of Americans want: to stop sending weapons to Israel to carry out atrocities against Palestinians.

The U.S. has sent Israel over $30 billion in weapons to carry out atrocities since October of 2023. Now the Israeli government is rapidly escalating its starvation and killing of Palestinians with President Trump’s full support. My friend in Gaza has been to the ‘humanitarian food distribution sites,’ and he’s seen the terror and death unleashed on hungry people through the weapons of Israeli soldiers and US mercenaries. Except through these death traps, the Israeli government has blocked aid from entering since March and is openly declaring that it intends to flatten Gaza.

Over the past 20 months, first President Biden and now President Trump have failed to implement existing U.S. laws that call for the halting of weapons to the Israeli military as it carries out genocide against Palestinians. Through the Block the Bombs Act Congress would take back this unchecked power from the President in order to stop the ongoing shipment of weapons to Israel. This is the only way to end U.S. complicity in this genocide, save lives, and create a pathway toward a just and sustainable peace for all.

I ask you to immediately co-sponsor this critical legislation to save lives. I ask for their sake. I ask for my sake, as a constituent morally injured by my complicity through taxes being spent to destroy. I ask for your sake – because the blood of the innocents cries out to God, and the God of justice hears their cries. Repent while you can and do everything you can to change course immediately.”
