As we celebrate the holidays and enjoy the warmth of our family and friends around us, let us not forget our human family suffering in Sudan.
Sara from BSonBlast is a diasporic Sudanese American who has been using her social media presence for years to educate the world about the democratic movement in Sudan, the people’s resistance to military governance, and the subsequent war for power against Sudanese civilian rule that’s been raging in Sudan since April 2023.
This December, she’s devoting her social media channels to raise funds for individual Sudanese families enduring the worst humanitarian crisis ever recorded. When I asked her why she’s doing this, she said, “There are just so many families in need, and they’re completely invisible. I wanted to help get their campaigns some visibility while also illustrating just how dire the situation is in Sudan.”
You can scroll through her posts in the images at the bottom of this post, or go directly to them in her Instagram stories HERE.
Each day in December, Sara has been highlighting a different family and their financial appeals. Most of these families are seeking funds to evacuate their families to safety. Some share the very real cost of war, including destruction of their homes, loss of employment and savings, multiple displacements, hunger, illness, lack of sanitation, suspended education, danger on every side, debt to survive, lack of healthcare, instability, and the violent deaths of their loved ones. The trauma is unspeakable.
Sara adds, “I feel like people don’t realize how bad things are, how desperate families are for help and for safety.”
Sara knows and cares, so she cannot be silent. [Malik‘s family is also enduring this hell. Our family also knows this reality too well.] We are shamelessly asking for your financial help.
