The Jeju Island 4.3 Massacre: 78 Years Later, 4/10 @ 8 pm ET

2026 marks the 78th anniversary of the 4.3 Jeju Massacre, committed by Koreans at the behest of US military orders. The Korea Peace Study Group will discuss this sad history in our April Korea Peace Study Group session.

(Saturday, April 11 at 9 am Korea time)

To prepare for our discussion, here is some recommended viewing: a recent report reflecting back on the 4.3 massacre by France24 and Jiseul, a 2012 film depicting the experiences of people in Jeju during the massacre (the film is available with English subtitles here: part 1part 2part 3part 4).

If you prefer to read, check out Suni Samchon published in 1978 by Hyun Ki-yong, translated to English in 2012 by Lee Jung-hi.

Please take notes about themes or questions that emerge for you and do some independent reading to investigate further to contribute to our group discussion in April.
