At the end of 2025, the White House released its National Security Strategy, making a shift toward focusing on the Western hemisphere, in what the document calls the “Trump Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine.”

We’ll be diving into that National Security Strategy in our study group this month, what our President refers to as the “Donroe Doctrine.”

Please take some time to read through this 29 page document if you are able, and make notes on what stands out to you – particularly trends you see emerging and how they relate to Asia at large and Korea in particular. After summarizing the document in our next study session, we will dive into discussion of the particulars.

Although this is not a fun read, it gives insight into current US decision making – and we can benefit from critically analyzing this.
