Feeding Sudan

We’re in the last 10 days of Ramadan for Muslims and in the midst of Lent for Christians. In both faiths, these seasons are times of sincerely seeking God and generously sharing our means with others.

The war continues raging in Sudan and war is now erupting just south of the border in South Sudan. Two weeks ago, troops moved in and took control of my husband’s home area – cutting off all communication. We are concerned for sisters and nieces at risk of militarized sexual violence, for a brother and nephews who could be conscripted into the fighting, and for all facing a looming famine across the region. Please pray with us.

Meanwhile, USAID and British funding cuts have caused community kitchens and hospitals to lose grant funding. Community kitchens were formed, right after the war erupted, as a grassroots response to community needs. They were initially supported only by local people and the Sudanese diaspora, but as the war dragged on, local resources dried up and additional support came from outside grants. With the cuts to outside funding, they urgently need more individual donations to keep going. When the kitchens cannot feed the community, hospitals are the last line of defense to keep malnourished people alive.

Will you stand in solidarity with the Sudanese people as they struggle to survive violence and man-made famine?

  • 🧺 You can provide Ramadan food baskets HERE in US Dollars.
  • ⛺ Hope and Haven for Refugees runs kitchens, clinics, and other frontline projects in refugee encampments, which you can contribute to HERE in US Dollars.
  • 🍲 Community kitchens in Khartoum receive donations HERE in British Pounds.
  • 🏥 Mother of Mercy hospital is caring for the largest influx of malnourished patients they’ve ever seen. You can donate in US dollars HERE.
  •  👨‍👩‍👦 Many Sudanese families are in crisis. They’ve exhausted their local support networks and are getting desperate. Would you choose one family to help? You can share their story with your friends and local community, get creative with fundraising, and collectively extend a lifeline across the miles. There’s a group of families listed HERE with their stories and campaigns in Euros, Australian, Canadian, US Dollars, or British Pounds.

I am so grateful to you for any solidarity you are offering to the people in Sudan in these very difficult days. Thank you.
