The video below gives a great visual demonstrating how youth need a network of support to grow well. Watch the video and consider what role you play in helping youth grow.
Some youth at my church recently said they wanted to learn how to study the Bible, so, tomorrow night, I’ll be teaching them a simple way to study the Bible for themselves.
I’ll be using this simple model – PROWAPT:
PRAY – Before jumping in to read, ask God to speak to you. This is His Word. He wants to meet with you in these pages.
READ – Now, open up and read from the Bible. Maybe a chapter or two. A story. Or pick a book of the Bible and read through it day by day.
OBSERVE – From what you read, what part stuck out to you? Did anything seem to jump out at you? Pay attention to that, and pause to think about it.
WONDER – Actively wonder about what you just read. Engage your imagination and your 5 senses. Wonder why the characters said or did what they did. Do you have questions as you wonder through this passage? Ask God your questions and write them down in a notebook. Also write down new lessons He’s teaching you as you wonder about the Scripture.
APPLY – If you learned something new today, consider how it applies to your life. Maybe what you heard from God’s Word today will impact how you live. Write down the important applications.
PRAY – Thank God for His Word and what He taught you or used to encourage you. Ask Him to help you live out what you learn from Him day by day.
TELL – If you learned something exciting or made a commitment to the Lord, tell a friend!
I’ve also uploaded two resources to the site. One is a Leader’s Guide for someone who would like to facilitate a simple Bible study with this model.
The second file is a Printable Handout that explains this simple form of Bible study and encourages regular Bible reading.
