I heard another tragic story of abuse and exploitation yesterday from the brave lips of one who endured and is still standing. Sometimes I get very angry and frustrated that criminals continue to operate with such impunity. The truth is, however, no one who exploits or abuses others – in fact, NO ONE who sins – will escape judgment. There is a day coming where we will all stand before a righteous Judge.
In the mean time, we all have an opportunity to throw ourselves on the mercy of Jesus – to accept that He would carry our just punishment for us. It’s scandalous to think that the most heinous trafficker and the most abused victim could stand on equal footing before the cross of Jesus, but that is the gospel. That is the Truth.
Still, in a world where justice is so often disregarded, the promise of God’s righteous judgment encourages me. He is going to come set this world right. Make sure you’re right with Him before that day.
— Psalm 98:9 —
