Reposting “We fight with prayer, we live in love” from my friend’s blog.
Tonight I saw a man beating a dog, I watched all these other dogs gather around that house and start howling and raising voices against this injustice on their friend. And my heart went out to them, as they all seemed very sad for their dog friend.
(her description of dogs howling at injustice reminded me of “The Twilight Bark!”)
And I thought about us humans and how often do we gather around each other and howl together when we are in pain or see injustice. How fast to we react to help one another when needed? Are the stray dogs I saw tonight better at supporting a friend or stranger in need than we are? This thought plagued me on my way home. Then I felt pain in my heart, for all the pain caused on this earth because of how we treat each other. Because the injustice of this world is done by humans to each other, and it is a shame how much hurt we cause, how much pain we inflect, on those who were created by the same Creator. The same Creator that said we live for Him when we live in love.
1 John 4:12 says “No one has ever seen God but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
I have been convicted so much by this verse over the past two weeks, and tonight I was convicted again. Sometimes people know us more, us Christians, for what we are against, for the people and lifestyles we hate, and the wars we made, than for love. God never said “go and fight each other”, He always stressed our “fights” were not to be in physical realm but in the spiritual, our battle stance is to be one of prayer. But He does say “go and love.”
We fight through prayer, we live in love. But I feel there are times that we all miss the mark of this truth. And it’s sad really, it’s just sad. So tonight I sit convicted, and I pray for 1 John 4 to be my heartbeat, so I can love like Jesus loves.
Please pray with my friend and I that 1 John 4 will be our heartbeat, Church.
And, if you want to howl with me at injustice, here’s an invitation…
