It’s that time of year again! For the past four years, I’ve used my birthday as a chance to shamelessly beg you, “Reach into your wallets and help my friends!” 🙂 All money raised in this year’s birthday fundraiser will go to the same cause as last year’s fundraiser.

(You can read the series of posts I wrote for last year’s fundraiser here: Post 1, Post 2, Post 3)

Last year, we raised over $1,000 for orphaned children who were chronically malnourished and at risk of starvation. That money was used to provide nutritional support for the children, and eye-witness reports from these orphanages tell us that with this nutritional assistance, the undernourished and malnourished children have become more alert, have more energy, and are beginning to gain weight. Lives are being saved and bodies restored to health through this support, which provides the nutrients that their meager diets cannot supply.

(You can read updates on the ongoing famine in their country here.)

I wish I could tell you that hunger was no longer a reality we needed to be concerned with, however, the fact of the matter is that this nation is currently in the midst of the worst drought in 50 years! After years of crop failure that led to hunger and starvation, the current lack of rain is terribly foreboding. One aid agency has projected that 2 million children will go hungry unless there is emergency food aid intervention.

So, will you be part of the answer to help these children stay alive? Please give something to help – maybe $26 on behalf of my 26th birthday – or maybe less or a lot more – but, for the sake of hungry kids, please give! And, if “hungry kids” doesn’t make you reach for your checkbook, then… look into my puppy dog sad face and… do it because it’s my birthday! 😉
