I was just reflecting on something a wise nun once told me.

Prayer is God’s expressed will. And love is God’s eternal motivation.

In God, the motivation and act of will must always be purely united, since He is not divided. Indeed, if Love binds the Trinity in perfect unity, then it is impossible for God to will anything unloving – lest His Oneness be broken.

And to think that Jesus prayed for us – on that last agonizing night on earth – that we would be one in His love! This is how the world will know Him!

Wow. Imagine the implications there!

Jesus prayed on that night,

I do not ask for these [His disciples during his three years of earthly ministry] only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word [that’s us! we’re in the book!], that they may all be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.

Ok, that’s amazing. We who have believed in Jesus through the testimony of the gospel will all be one – bound in love and perfect obedience and mutual submission. It sounds like the perfect will of God will be operating in the Church so that the world will know Jesus!

He continued to pray,

The glory that You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one even as We are one, I in them and You in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that You sent Me and loved them even as You loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given Me, may be with Me where I am, to see My glory that You have given Me because You loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, even though the world does not know You, I know You, and these know that You have sent Me. I made known to them Your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them.

Nothing that hinders love will remain in us. And love leads to obedience – so no disobedient act or rebellious intention will remain in the Church! All will be the Father’s bond of Love – His very nature will bind us to one another, not our frail, failed human conception of love! All of the Church will operate in perfect submission to God’s good will – and the light of His love bond in us will forever remove the deception veil of the enemy. All the world will see Jesus as He is! There will be no more blind eyes in that moment – only knees bowed and trembling before His beauty – His terrifying purity – His perfect holiness.

“Prayer and love are one.”

I have pondered this many times and also observed with awe the intention of the Lord to bind humanity together in love as He is bound in the trinity in love.

More than that I have been blessed to experience a shade of that love when in a community of believers. There is a love for others that is possible only by Christ dwelling within. I find that as He manifests His life in us we are consumed with love for one another.

I have accepted this occasional experience as proof of God’s intention…and I long deeply for its fullness in our lives.

Thank you for this blog post, Jennie.

I’m also SO super excited for that day when our hearts are all united as one with His! Pure – unhindered – undefiled fellowship… fullness of joy and perfect peace! Yay God!
