Who are you, Jesus?

Why does my heart insist on loving you?

Who is this God-man that I am eternally tied to?

Remind me who You are.

I am life, before life as you know it existed.

I am the vein of existence that always has been and forever will be.

I am truth, the ultimate reality.

I am good. I am personable. I relate to You.

I am love – for you and all who don’t yet acknowledge me.

I am pure. I am unpollutable. In Me only are you clean.

I am strength that overcomes all things, for all things are sustained by Me.

I am peace that flows riverlike, the subcurrent in all the chaos men have created.

I am far above you – all of you – but I made myself one of you.

Why?

Just to be with you.

Why us?

I am your maker, though you don’t believe Me.

I am your lord, though you don’t obey Me.

I am the center of reality, though you choose life on the periphery.

Yet, I have chosen humanity as the object of my love.

Like a longing parent, I wait for you to look my way –

to draw near where I will nurture you, train you, lavish my delight upon you.

I am not in a hurry. Time is far beneath me.

You bow to its demands, but I sit enthroned above it.

I am patient with you and faithful to embrace you when you turn to Me.

Only for love, as love is the essence of my nature.

Love beyond your understanding and your current reach.

But you will know Me, and I will fill you with the fullness of My love.

Why did you have to become man?

Why does a father get down on the floor to play with his children?

Why does a child stoop low to speak to an animal?

You would not understand or relate to me unless I made myself like you.

But, didn’t you risk being viewed as only a man?

Yes, and many still see me as mortal.

I did not fear misunderstanding.

Love is often misunderstood,

But love withheld for fear is not Love at all.

My claim to Godhood was my death sentence as a man.

My death, in turn, was your key to unhindered relationship with Me.

Why? How did that work?

Death was your enemy, always at work in your bodies,

Ever since you made the choice to retreat from my purity.

My death was a battle against Death at work in you.

Death could not hold me, and I took back Life for Myself and all who believe Me.

By my bloody death-battle and victorious return-to-life

I won for you the purity you cannot live in your power.

I gave all of Me so that all of you could be mine again.

When did we stop being yours?

When you chose another lover.

He seduced you with pleasant words and enticing gifts,

But his lies entrapped you.

You followed his leading and rejected my Love.

Why didn’t you take us back then?

I made you to be like Me.

Like Me, you can choose the object of your love.

I would not take you by force, if your heart would still long for that lying-love-thief.

All he does is deception. All his works are dark –

sheathed in light just long enough to capture your attention.

His ways are all counterfeit. Shadows, only weak shadows of pure reality.

So, the choice to return to You was ours?

Yes, except the enemy of your souls does not play fair.

My Love does not trap you or hold you captive.

Love is freely given and freely received.

It risks rejection.

His love is not Love at all.

Once you look his way, he captures you.

There is no release from him, save death,

But that death was hell – for it was only a door to eternity without Me.

So, I chose death for myself, to defeat him

and open the way for you to come back to Me.

So, what now?

Like a longing parent, I wait for you to look my way –

to draw near where I will nurture you, train you, lavish my delight upon you.

I am not in a hurry. Time is far beneath me.

You bow to its demands, but I sit enthroned above it.

I am patient with you and faithful to embrace you when you turn to Me.

Only for love, as love is the essence of my nature.

Love beyond your understanding and your current reach.

But you will know Me, and I will fill you with the fullness of My love.

You are Jesus, the only way.

Amen.

“If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Jesus died unnecessarily.” –Galatians 2:21 (MSG)
