“My name is ‘Ameh.’ I am 17 years old.
I have 3 siblings from my mother.
We are me and my brother and my little sister.

We were attacked by the LRA at home in Congo in March 2008. By that time, I was 15 years old.
That was the last time I saw my family.

The LRA abducted me and some other children from the other houses. There were many of us taken.
I cannot say the number.
There were children that I knew who were abducted together with us. The ones I knew came from the neighboring homes. We were divided into different locations.

The LRA kill people.
They beat people.
They marry people.
Really, it is sexual abuse.

I was in the bush with the LRA from March 2008 until September 2009.

One day, when the SPLA [the army of southern Sudan] started fighting a battle with the LRA, I ran away into the bush.

I ran with ‘Vivi’ and ‘Jenety.’
Others ran too, in different directions.
We ran in small groups.

So, we ran and we slept in the bush, the three of us.
The SPLA didn’t capture us, we just ran into the bush to escape. Then, the next day, we saw some SPLA soldiers.
They brought us to Yei here.

We reached Yei, and after one day, the SPLA came with ‘Minala,’ another girl who was with the LRA.
She was pregnant.

Now, those other girls have all gone back to their relatives.

On the 29th of December, I heard the news that my mother in Congo is alive. She was looking for me.
I am happy to hear about my mum, and I’ll be happy to see my family. I would like to tell my family that now I am staying here well in Sudan.

With the war there in Congo, I don’t know if it is better for my mum to come here to Sudan or if it is better for me to go there. I don’t have any information about if there is war in Congo still.

I hope that people will pray for the LRA.

Now, I have learned Arabic and some English, and I have made new friends here in Sudan.
In my future, I would like to get more education.
I don’t know what job I would like to do in the future.
God knows.

Here in Yei at Iris Ministries, I am staying well with my friends.
If I leave here, I would like to communicate with them through letters.

My favorite subject in school is mathematics, French, and communication. I would like to go to visit my relatives and then come back here to study for secondary school in Yei. I would like my parents to come visit me here in Yei while I’m in school. Here, I will be joining secondary 1 [equivalent to 9th grade in the USA]. I would be happy to learn English. I want to stay here and go to school.”
