In case you missed the joyous news, last week, the Government of Sudan announced that it is again postponing the nation’s highly-anticipated, first-ever Presidential election to February 2010.
This delay follows another postponement announced late last year that the election had been moved from July 2009 to November 2009.
Now, are these delays a good thing? Well, I suppose it depends on the actual reason why they are being delayed. Both July and November fall in rainy season, when many parts of the country, most especially in the south, are isolated because of flooding and washed out roads; so, in the very least, February will mean dry roads and more easily accessible polling stations.
