I leave for Africa today. 🙂 After a journey of nearly two days of planes and layovers and such, I’ll be back in Mozambique to embark on this new adventure. You see, I’ve set aside this summer to seek the LORD. I need to know Him.
Brief aside- I will attend the Harvest School of Missions in northern Mozambique and participate in bush outreaches in partnership with African pastors and congregations in Mozambique and Sudan. And, while I will be receiving very valuable missionary training- I’m sure- I know that unless I continually draw nearer to the heart of God, any ministry will be fruitless. So, I seek more of Him.
Can you imagine what it would be like if all of us knew our heavenly Father so well that it was as if we had His heart beating in our chests? If His will and joy and love would drive our every thought and action? I think that’s the kind of servants He desires- those who want to know Him more than anything!
When I was young, the Christian life often seemed very boring. I’m just being honest. It didn’t usually seem like anything dynamic, real, or applicable to my life. I was missing out on the utter reality of our great God!
Unfortunately, many people in the church today live in that same dry spot. Of course they are content with their faith as it is! Could it be any different? Haven’t they achieved the goal already? Salvation is secured by grace through faith, they live good lives, perhaps even make themselves read the Bible each day, and show up to church every Sunday without fail. They are fairly comfortable, and they thank God for their blessings each night. Perhaps that’s what your faith is like. I’m not intending to devalue what may be a very deep rooted belief in God, but I would like to help you realize one thing: THERE’S MORE! God has more- He IS more!
I can’t talk in detail about what this “more” is just yet. I have a sense- a taste of it, but I have by no means yet attained it. I’m just really, really hungry.
Honestly, I think that’s the key. Get a taste of Him. “Taste and see that the LORD is good!” (Psalm 34:8) Once you’ve tasted Him in a fresh way, you too will long for more. The most beautiful thing about our longing is that in His love for us, He will give us more.
“We will find Him when we seek Him with all of our hearts.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
Praise God for what we know of Him now, but let’s keep running this race. Let’s push on. Let’s diligently seek Him!
That’s what I’m doing this summer in Africa. I’m seeking God’s face. I hope my journey will challenge you to embark on your own adventure in holy hunger for our good Father!
