There are many reasons why protesters are calling on the world to boycott the Beijing Olympics this summer.
Human rights abuses. Tibet. Political Repression. Darfur. POLLUTION. Burma. censored media.
As for me, I called the White House yesterday afternoon, requesting that the USA boycott the opening ceremony. “Hey Mr. President, it would be awesome if you would choose not to attend the opening ceremony in Beijing and ask the athletes to do the same… Why? Well, Mr. President, should I tell you about the pollution first or the genocide and media censorship?”
Boycotting an opening ceremony, now, is that really such a huge thing to ask?
PS: I discovered an online video game this evening that lets you simulate the everyday life of a Darfurian refugee. As you experience a range of emotions in playing the game, take time to reflect on the fact that 2.5 million Darfurians are living that reality on a daily basis. Check it out.
